My Eight-Year-Old Daughter, Unprovoked

I. Four years ago today:

Me: Are you getting tired?
Her: Yeah. Actually, I’m not getting tired.
Me: OK, do you want to speed up?
Her: No. Actually, I do want to speed up.
Me: That’s OK. A little woman can change her mind.
Her: ANY woman can change her mind.

II. Last week:

Her, randomly, at bedtime: I don’t think it’s fair that when a woman gets married, she has to change her last name to the same one the man has.

(I did inform her that this is optional, with a brief history of women as property, and how things have improved on that front)
